As an independent non-profit organization, the ALLEX Foundation works closely with Cornell University, Ohio State University, Portland State University, and Washington University in St. Louis, four of the nation’s top institutions for Asian language pedagogy, through the ALLEX Consortium for Chinese and Japanese Teacher Training, to implement high quality teacher training programs—the foundation for ALLEX’s academic exchanges.

The Consortium, formed in September 2005, is comprised of universities committed to the establishment and enhancement of high quality secondary and post-secondary level Chinese and Japanese language programs.

The consortium does not endorse a specific methodology; rather it is an administrative organ that enables institutions with a commitment to teaching languages–specifically Chinese and Japanese–in cultural contexts, to pool resources (mainly faculty) for high quality training programs, such as the eight week WUSTL-ALLEX Chinese & Japanese Teacher Training Institute, administered by the Consortium, as well as the two day Refresher Seminar
